Full-Stack Engineer (Node.js and TypeScript)

People shop through WeShop from 500+ major online retailers (and new ones are added regularly), while also sharing finds, making recommendations and discovering products through the community. The innovative social-commerce platform was launched in the UK in 2022 and aims to list on the Nasdaq tech-heavy index in New York and launch in the US in the first quarter of 2025.

The role:

We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Engineer, who will be involved in the continued development and evolution of WeShop’s platform, working across different web applications.

You’ll contribute to maintaining and improving the existing product, optimising performance, and developing new functionality as the platform continues to grow.

A particularly interesting part of the role will be the opportunity to get involved in building a new WeShop web application from scratch. You’ll be joining at an early stage and will have the chance to contribute to how the application is designed and structured, as well as taking an active role in its development from the ground up.

Alongside this, you’ll continue working with the APIs used by WeShop’s mobile applications, the processes and integrations connecting the platform with external services, and the internal tools used by WeShop’s teams.

You’ll work closely with mobile engineers, testers and other specialists across the business, contributing to technical discussions and helping turn product ideas and requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions. There will be plenty of scope to take ownership of your work, influence technical decisions and contribute to the overall quality of the product as it develops.

• Expert-level knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, someone comfortable working with Linux and Docker containers
• Hands-on knowledge of AWS services, including ECS, S3, SNS, SQS, RDS and CloudWatch
• Confident using Git and Gitflow
• Familiar with code reviews and Agile/Scrum development methodologies
• Clear understanding of architectural patterns and coding best practices
• Genuine focus on writing high-quality, performant code without falling into premature optimization
• Enjoys solving complex problems and can accurately assess the wider impact of a change
• Able to estimate work realistically and commit to deadlines when needed
• Can prioritise tasks effectively based on business needs
• Comfortable communicating openly and consistently within the team and across the wider business

Brownie points:

• Front-end knowledge, ideally with React
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch
• Exposure to DevOps and system administration
